Earth observing satellites (EOS) help capture a range of sensor based imagery that can be used to understand the terrestrial, ocean and atmospheric components of the Earth System. Optical Remote Sensing deals with the use of Optical Sensors, in visible and near infrared ranges of the Electromagnetic spectrum to capture these dynamics in a range of spatial, spectral and temporal resolutions, leading to a multitude of uses.
The Optical Remote Sensing Virtual Lab will help the students comprehend, learn and understand the mechanisms of image capture in satellite and airborne optical remote sensing sensors, their design considerations and limitations. It will also make them understand/appreciate how the knowledge of data generation affects the retrieval of relevant information (e.g. the bio-physical characteristics of the terrestrial ecosystem)
